The Camera Doesn't Bite: How to Overcome Your On-Camera Fears and Look Confident

Dan Keldsen here, Co-founder and Chief Evangelist of PlexiCam.

Welcome back to my channel for business professionals who want to look confident on camera!

Today, I'm sharing five tips inspired by my recent conversation with Julie Hansen, author of Look Me in the Eye and expert on showing up your best on camera.

  1. #PracticeOnStage - As Julie mentioned, actors and performers are not naturally good on camera - they practice to improve their skills. Similarly, consider joining a public speaking or acting class to improve your stage presence and build confidence in front of an audience.

  2. #EnergyTransfer - Whether you're on stage or on camera, there is an energy transfer happening between you and your audience. Be mindful of your energy and how it comes across on camera. Practice projecting positive energy and enthusiasm to keep your audience engaged.

  3. #EyeContactIsKey - Eye contact is crucial to building a connection with your audience, even through a camera lens. Practice looking directly into the camera and imagine that you're speaking to a specific person. This will help you come across as more personable and confident.

  4. #KnowYourBodyLanguage - Just like in-person communication, your body language can convey a lot of information on camera. Be aware of your posture, facial expressions, and hand gestures. Avoid fidgeting or slouching, as this can make you appear nervous or unprofessional.

  5. #BeAuthenticAndNatural - Finally, the most important tip is to be yourself on camera. Don't try to imitate someone else's style or persona. Be authentic, speak naturally, and let your personality shine through. This will help you build trust with your audience and come across as more genuine.

I hope these tips help you improve your on-camera presence and build your confidence.
